FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to wear any special clothing to class? No, just dress comfortably. Make sure that you can raise your hands above your head with ease. You do not need to be "dressed up" for class or the parties. Do I need to wear special shoes? Please do not wear flip-flops, sandals, tennis shoes or backless shoes. There are special dance shoes and boots that you can purchase, but they are not necessary for beginners. Please wear shoes that are secure on your feet, and have smooth soles. What is so special about dances shoes and dance boots? Just like any other sport, dancing has it's own proper footwear. These shoes and boots are made with extra arch support, and have special suede soles. The shoes come in many styles and colors, and can be purchased at Robert & Lonnie's www.lonniesdance.com or Fancy Dancer at FM 1960 and Champions Forest Drive. They range in price from $69 up to $150 per pair. The boots may be purchased here at Cut-A-Rug. They are Evenin' Star Dance Boots, and are made by a dancer from Houston. The boots start at $179 +tax for regular black leather, and go up according to the type of skin you want. Do I have to start in Level I? No, you do not. If you have prior dance experience, and are not sure where you should be placed, please book an Introductory Private Lesson, and your instructor will evaluate you, and place you in the proper class. Can I take more than one style of dance at a time? Yes, many people do this. While we do not recommend taking several styles at one time, taking two classes simultaneously is OK. When will I be able to attend my first Practice Party? You may attend your first Practice Party after your first lesson. It's never too early to practice! If you practice what you are learning in your class or privates, you will have a much easier time when you attend your next lesson. How many lessons will I need before I can dance? Everyone is different! It's hard to say when we haven't seen you dance yet. After your first lesson, you will have a good idea of how long it will take you to learn the basics, and a few patterns in each dance. There is no magic number, since everyone has a different aptitude for learning. What's the fastest way to learn? If you take one group class per week, one private lesson per week, and attend the Practice Parties, you will certainly learn faster than everyone else! This is know as the Three Way Teaching System. You learn your patterns in the group classes, work on technique and your specific problem areas in the privates, and of course, practice makes perfect! Do I have to have a partner? No, you do not. Singles and couples alike join our classes. It's a great way to meet people! You can also try one of our Line Dancing classes. It's a great aerobic workout and is not danced with a partner. How many people can be in a Private Lesson? One or two people for the same price. If there are two people, there must be one leader and one follower. If there are more that two people, this is considered a group. You must then join a group course, or create one of your own. What is a Private Group? A Private Group is a Group Course where you can come with a group of friends or family members, and no one else will be put into your group class. You can work on any dances you want to work on. There is a minimum of 8 people in a private Group @ $40 per person. If you have less than 8 people, you may elect to pay the difference. Private Groups are subject to the availability of the Studio's schedule.
